‘306’: Dems tease Trump with projected Biden win which he once called a landslide
Senator Chuck Schumer and Pete Buttigieg mocked Mr Trump on Twitter
Democrats have teased Donald Trump after Joe Biden was projected to win the same number of electoral college votes he once called a “landslide.”
Mr Biden is expected to secure 306 votes to the outgoing president’s 232 after traditionally red state Georgia was called for the president-elect by CNN.
And that was enough for leading critics of Mr Trump to take to Twitter and tease him over his defeat.
“306,” tweeted Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg also posted the number to Twitter.
The close race in Georgia has yet to be called by the Associated Press where Mr Biden has a lead of 0.3 per cent over Mr Trump.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is now auditing the presidential race to ensure that machines counted ballots accurately.
A full hand count will also be done to complete the audit and the Associated Press says it will monitor the audit and reassess the race when it is complete.
Mr Biden’s capture of Georgia's 16 electoral votes, see him flipping a state Republicans have taken in presidential elections since 1996.
Meanwhile the Associated Press called North Carolina for Mr Trump, leaving Georgia as the only outstanding race.
Mr Trump has still not conceded the election to Mr Biden and has refused his transition team access to funds and national security intelligence.
The president has refused to acknowledge his loss and filed a string of lawsuits with false claims of ballot fraud.
Cyber security experts at the Department of Homeland Security have rejected the president’s claims and called the election the “most secure in American history.”
