From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The president-elect flexed his leg and pointed down at the protective boot he was wearing over his suit trousers.
Mr Biden was asked how his injured foot was doing by reporters as he stepped out of his SUV in Wilmington, Delaware.
“Good. thanks for asking,” he replied as he pointed down at it.
Mr Biden suffered a hairline fracture of his right foot when he slipped while playing with his dog, Major.
Doctors treating Mr Biden say he will likely have to wear the boot for several weeks to treat the “mid-foot” injury.
Mr Biden suffered the injury on Saturday and saw an orthopedist on Sunday.
"Initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but his clinical exam warranted more detailed imaging," said Dr Kevin O'Connor.
"Follow-up CT scan confirmed hairline (small) fractures of President-elect Biden's lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones, which are in the mid-foot.
"It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks."
On Sunday evening Donald Trump tweeted: “Get well soon!”
