Bernie Sanders’ son says both parties are ‘totally out of touch’
The 2020 presidential candidate’s son joins his father in criticising the Democratic party
Levi Sanders, son of Vermont Senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, tweeted that as he’s watched the election results pour in, it’s clear both parties “are totally out of touch.”
Bernie Sanders, who’s registered in the Senate as an independent, ran for president as a Democrat in 2016 and 2020, but has also frequently criticized the party on kitchen table issues like health care and minimum wages.
Democratic nominee Joe Biden began election night with a comfortable predicted lead nearing double digits, according to RealClearPolitics, but the election has been closer than he would’ve liked. He’s already lost key swing states like Florida.
This has prompted commentators to reach diverging conclusions. Some have argued that amid historic challenges like the coronavirus, which has killed more than 230,000 people in the US, and growing inequality, the race shouldn’t have been as close as it was, revealing how the parties aren’t willing to get behind broadly popular policies.
Others have said that if Mr Biden can win despite the president’s repeated falsehoods on voting security and a conservative media ecosystem that backs him no matter what, it would be a big achievement.
