Two Britons charged with cocaine possession in Grenada

Two Britons have been remanded in custody on the Caribbean island of Grenada after attempting to smuggle nearly 3lb of cocaine in their luggage, police have said.

A statement from the Royal Grenada Police Force said Nadine Jones, 31, and Simeon Archibald, a 35-year-old photographer, appeared before St George's Magistrate Court yesterday.

They are both jointly charged with possession of and trafficking of a controlled drug.

Police said they were arrested at around 5pm on July 26 as they tried to leave Maurice Bishop International Airport on a Virgin Atlantic flight to London with 2lb 9oz (1.3kg) of cocaine concealed in their luggage.

Police have not revealed any further details regarding the home town or personal details of Ms Jones or Mr Archibald.

They are due to appear in court again on August 3, police added.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of an arrest in Grenada and we're providing consular assistance to the family. We are looking into reports of a second arrest of a British national."
