Sophia’s reign as the top name given to baby girls in the US was short lived, as it was knocked out of the top spot after just one year as queen.

Charlotte snuck into the top-10 in 2014, but is sure to climb that list in the coming years after Prince William and Princess Kate named their new baby Charlotte.

“Charlotte's definitely going to hit the top three in the next three years,” said Jennifer Moss, founder and CEO of Babynames.com, according to the Associated Press.

The US Social Security Administration has been releasing the 1,000 most-popular baby names every year since 1880. The top girls’ name in 1880 was Mary, which has now fallen to No. 120.

The fastest-rising girls’ name was Aranza, which jumped 3,625 spots to No. 607. Aranza is a popular Mexican singer. Also, there is a character named Aranza on the Mexican telenovela “Por Siempre Mi Amor,” which debuted in 2013.

“Since the Internet and since pop culture is so prevalent and in-your-face all the time now, parents are finding baby names from fiction, from television, from movies, from celebrities, most often,” Ms Moss said. “And then secondly, friends and family and the family tree.”
