From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A 39-year-old man killed himself after wounding his ex-girlfriend and fatally shooting her current boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend showed up to hand-off his two children — ages 6 and 11-years-old — to their mother.

Just after 5pm, the 33-year-old mother was waiting in her car in East Flatbush when she was shot in the torso. The 44-year-old boyfriend was also shot in the head. He was later pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital, ABC7 New York reports.

The suspect then walked to the car where his two children were waiting before fatally shooting himself in the head. The children went unharmed and their mother is currently recovering in Kings County Hospital.

The New York Police Department said that there were no prior records of domestic violence incidents between the former longtime couple, according to ABC.

None of the victims have been identified by authorities.
