From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 34-year-old is currently facing two charges after reportedly verbally and then physically fighting with a man named Tyler Murphy on 12 June.
According to a copy of the misdemeanour complaint, obtained by The Associated Press, the altercation allegedly resulted in the Honey Boy star stealing Murphy’s hat.
The complaint, which appears to have been filed in September, requests that a warrant be issued for LaBeouf’s arrest.
The filing reveals that an arraignment hearing has been scheduled for 19 November.
LaBeouf has had multiple run-ins with the law throughout his career.
In 2014, the actor was arrested outside New York City’s Studio 54 after he drunkenly disrupted a performance of Cabaret. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to court-mandated rehabilitation.
In 2017, the former Disney star was again booked for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction in Savannah, Georgia. The incident ultimately led to the actor’s now-notorious racist and misogynistic rant at a police station.
The following year, LaBeouf apologised for the incident and told Esquire: “White privilege and desperation and disaster...It came from a place of self-centred delusion...It was me trying to absolve myself of guilt for getting arrested.”
