From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Katherine Lemansky, a 45-year-old woman from North Carolina, was arrested and charged after she posted a photograph online of her dog with its mouth taped shut with tape.
“This is what happens when you don’t shut up?” she wrote, sparking widespread outcry.
Now another woman has got in on the act.
Attisyn Chadwick, of Thayne, Wyoming, posted a video on Facebook of her taping shut her own dog's mouth and defending the actions of Ms Lemansky, according to Fox13 News.
The channel reported that she said she did not do it to punish her dog but to show that the tape can be gently removed.
But Ms Chadwick is apparently getting the same backlash that Ms Lemansky received.
She is also facing the same legal problems.
Although she later posted a public apology on Facebook, on Tuesday the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announced she too would be charged with animal cruelty.
