From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A fast food customer was apparently so disappointed a restaurant had run out of chicken sandwiches he pulled a gun and demanded staff make him one anyway.
The meat-lover whipped out the weapon in a branch of Popeyes in the US city of Houston.
He was among a group of men and women who threatened staff upon learning of the shortage.
"When the manager told them they were out, one of the males became upset and pulled a pistol and demanded a chicken sandwich," Lieutenant Larry Crowson, of Houston Police Department, said in a statement.
At an apparent loss what to do, the manager “again informed them they were out of sandwiches,” added Lt Crowson.
At that point, the group left and drove off in a 4x4 vehicle.
No shots were fired and no-one was injured during the incident on Monday night, but police said they are reviewing surveillance footage and actively hunting the suspect.
