From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The death toll was confirmed to ABC7 by Duncan Police chief Danny Ford, who said that the three people were killed outside the store near a vehicle.
One of those killed was the shooter, he said. Several more were reportedly injured in the shooting.
“We have three individuals that are deceased. We have two white males and a white female,” Mr Ford said, according to Fox25. “Two of the victims are inside a vehicle, one is outside the vehicle. And at this point that’s about all we do know.”
The shooting apparently involved a handgun, and the police department has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Schools in the Oklahoma city have been placed on lock down until they get an all clear from law enforcement.
Duncan is the county seat of Stephens County, and had a population of 23,431 the last time the Census was conducted, in 2010.
The city is located roughly 50 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.
Walmarts across the country have recently been the sites of shootings like these, and the Monday shooting comes after two prominent attacks at a location in El Paso, Texas, where 22 people were killed, and another at a location in Mississippi, where two were killed.
