From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The footage shows a plain clothes officer swearing at the driver for apparently honking his horn at the unmarked police car after the officer tried to park without indicating.
The officer repeatedly mocks the mild-mannered driver’s accent and intersperses the tirade with numerous uses of foul language.
“I don’t know what f*****g planet you’re on right now” he yells at the driver before slamming the door.
Before he returns with a ticket for the driver, Sanjay Seth, the passenger who filmed the incident, describes the officer’s behaviour as “crazy” and “really inappropriate.”
The officer then returns, continues his rant and asks the driver: “How long have you been in this country for?”
He tells the driver that the only reason that he isn’t taking him to jail is “because I have things to do.”
Seth, who posted the video to his Youtube channel, wrote that the incident took place in the city’s West Village, within the confines of the city’s 6th precinct.
A statement from the NYPD said: “We are aware of the incident and video and it is under review with the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau.”
As of last week, Uber taxis officially overtook the number of registered taxis in the city.
There are currently 14,088 Uber cars compared with 13,847 yellow cabs, according to figures released by the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.
