A couple in Mexico have been shot and killed by a flood of gunshots to their car while quarantining amidst the coronavirus pandemic, reports say.

Juarez Police have identified the victims as Karla Baca, and Pat Landers, according to KTSM.

The two were said to have been driving a black jeep on Lopez Mateos Avenue in South Juarez on Monday when at least 20 gunshots were fired at their vehicle, according to the outlet.

Police, reportedly said Baca was a Physical Education teacher in Juarez, and Landers was her boyfriend.

A friend of Landers, Dave LaBarge, told Syracuse.com that Landers was quarantining with Baca amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

He also said that two had been dating for three or four months, according to the outlet.

The investigation is still ongoing, and no further information is available at this time regards to motive, reports say.

“He had an extraordinary life,” Mr LaBarge said of Landers, detailing his career as a professional golfer which allowed him to travel across the country.

There have been more than 100 killings in Juarez this month, with 560 homicides so far this year, according to a daily tally by Norte Digital news website, El Paso Times reported.

The outlet said that law officials stated much of the violence is related to fighting between drug gangs.
