Mexican authorities have found the remains of a plane that disappeared after leaving from Las Vegas, amid reports all 14 people on board were killed.

The wreckage of the plane, a Bombardier Challenger 601, crashed in the mountainous region of Monclova, while on route to the northern Mexican city of Monterrey.

The remains were found about 130 miles northwest of the town of Monclova. Reports said the passengers were returning after watching Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez, who defeated Daniel Jacobs at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The wreckage of the plane was found via aerial surveillance, said officials in the state of Coahuila.

“The land is rather mountainous...so they’re going to take a while longer to arrive,” said Fernando Orta of the state’s emergency services department.

The plane is made by Bombardier Aerospace, which is headquartered in Dorval, Canada. There was no immediate response from the company.

A photograph published on local television network Milenio showed what it said were the burnt remnants of the plane, broken into pieces, spread over charred earth.

A Mexican transport ministry spokesman could not say whether there had been any survivors.

Air traffic controllers reportedly lost contact with the small twin-engine jet sometime after 5.20pm on Sunday as the pilot descended to avoid a storm.

The incident is the latest in a series of fatal air crashes or lucky escapes, over the last few days.

On Sunday, 41 people were killed when an Aeroflot jet was forced to make an emergency landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport after being struck by lightning.

On Friday, 136 passengers escaped with their lives, after a US government-operated flight from Guantanamo Bay, skidded from a runway in Florida and ended in a river, after landing in a storm.
