McDonald's starts serving pizza again for first time in 20 years - but it isn't easy to find
Most restaurants stopped serving it because it took too long to cook

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After nearly 20 years off the menu, fast food giant McDonald’s has begun serving pizza again.
But the ‘McPizza’ is only available in two places, both in the US.
Outlets in Pomerory, Ohio and Spencer, West Virginia are the only places to sell the traditional Italian dish.
There are no further plans to expand to other outlets.
Fast food lovers reacted with glee to the discovery on social media, with some apparently travelling long distances to sample the McPizza.
One fan posted a picture of the pizza, along with McDonald’s fries on Instagram, along with the caption “it was worth the nine-hour drive let me tell you”.
Another added: “Today was a good day had McDonald pizza for the first time in almost 20 years.”
Individual pizzas cost three dollars and a larger, family-size pizza is six dollars.
Pizza was introduced in McDonald’s in the 1980s as an eat-in product served to customers at tables.
Around 500 outlets served it by 1991 but the trend had died out by 2000.
The pizzas take around 11 minutes to cook and McDonalds wanted to maintain its reputation for fast food.
