From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pilot Izzy Slod told KTLA that his engine “quit” on him part way through a short flight and that he had to make a last-minute decision to aim for the road. Mr Slod attributed his ability to land without incident to his training, saying he acted instinctively.
“I went with my gut on the freeway,” Mr Slod told CBSLA. “I didn't know it was a freeway here, I didn’t know if I would make it, but it paid off this time”.
He ultimately had to fly under an overpass to pull it off.
“I had to make a last-minute, last-second judgment on whether or not we could make it over, and we didn't have the airspeed to make it over, so I went under it,” Mr Slod said.
The Costa Mesa Fire Department confirmed that an “experienced” pilot had safely landed a small aircraft on State Route 55 late Sunday evening.
Videos from the scene showed the small aircraft pulled over on the road’s shoulder, surrounded by light-flashing police vehicles.
Costa Mesa Fire Captain Chris Coatez told KTLA it was a “complete miracle” that traffic was light enough for Mr Slod to touch down without colliding with other cars.
