From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Orca flipped the turtle high above the water in the Bolivar Channel, Ecuador, teasing it before finally going in for the kill.
Tour guide Phil Courter filmed the video while on a boat trip around the Galapagos Islands.
Fernando Diez, a passenger on the boat, was delighted as he watched events unfold, saying he’d “never imagined” he’d see something like that.
"It was incredible,” said Diez.
"We knew the Orcas were feeding in these waters as we were returning from our snorkelling excursion, but never imagined we would see them playing with their food like this.
"It is not too common for Orcas to feed on sea turtles, and our guide believed that they were playing with the turtle because they weren't really hungry.
"After several minutes of playing with it, the Orca ended up eating the sea turtle."
