“All Clear,” the university’s emergency office said in a Sunday tweet about the incident, which took place at KSU’s Marietta campus. “Suspect has been apprehended and there is no threat to either KSU campus. Please resume normal operations.”
Marietta police said they captured the suspect, a man, near a restaurant by campus.
“The suspect fired a handgun inside the restaurant and then fled on foot,” Chuck McPhilamy, a Marietta police spokesman, said. “The Marietta KSU campus was notified and they alerted their students and faculty as a precaution. The suspect has been apprehended.”
The all-clear came not long after the school warned students about an armed person on campus.
The suspect was taken into custody around 4pm, officials told Atlanta’s WSB-TV, and a heavy police presence was reported near campus.
KSU’s emergency office has not responded to a request for comment.
Initial alerts about the situation prompted confusion over where it was happening, with one reporting the potential shooter was on the school’s Kennesaw campus, and another saying “the incident occurred on the Marietta Campus".
But according to a Twitter user who is a student, a later emergency alert named the Marietta location as the danger zone.
Students were told to lock their doors and windows while police looked into the incident.
