Ikea is recalling roughly 169,000 crib mattresses due to a concern that babies can become trapped in a gap between the mattress and the crib, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported on Tuesday.

The Commission reported that the recall involves Ikea's Vyssa style crib mattresses with the model names Vackert, Vinka, Spelevink, Sloa and Slummer. The recall includes mattresses made on May 4, 2014 and earlier.

The Commission reported that for customers ensure whether their mattress was part of the recall, "A gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than two finger width is an indication of the defective mattress...If any gap is larger, customers should immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund."

The crib mattresses could create a gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than allowed by federal regulations.

The statement from the Commission said that the Swedish manufacturer had received two reports of children becoming entrapped between the mattress and an end of the crib. Both children were removed from the gap without injury.

The mattresses were sold at Ikea stores in the United States and at ikea-usa.com between August 2010 and May 2014 for about $100.

In recent months, Ikea have had to ask customers who bought their Gunggung children's swing to stop using the item and return it to the store due to safety concerns, while last march the manufacturer recalled children’s bed canopies because of a strangulation risk.
