Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Identical twin sisters gave birth just hours apart in the same hospital – while their partners, who are both called William, were at their side.
Rachel McGeoch and Beccy Pistone, 34, had their deliveries in adjacent wards at Mount Auburn Hospital, in Massachusetts in the US.
Ms Pistone had earlier travelled to the clinic with her husband William ‘Todd’ Pistone to comfort her sister Ms McGeoch as she went into labour – and then went into labour herself.
She was put into a room next door to Ms McGeoch, who was with her fiance William Bubenicek – but still managed to celebrate when Ms McGeoch gave birth hours later.
“Bec and crew were banging on the walls as they heard our baby William born!” Ms McGeoch wrote on Facebook about the delivery on 15 August.
The following afternoon Ms McGeoch went with her newborn to visit her twin sister Ms Pistone after her labour had run into complications
“Bec had not made much progress, the baby was in the wrong position and she was stalled,” said Ms McGeoch. “We knew she needed some inspiration.”
Hours later at just before 7pm she gave birth to her baby Andi. Ms McGeoch wrote how the infants were born within less than a day of each other. “They are only 20 hours apart!!”
But Ms McGeoch said she was not surprised at the apparent coincidence with her twin Ms Pistone. She told the Daily News: “We were always super close and went through life doing it together.”
She added on Facebook: “There are so many awesome things about being a twin but this might take the cake!
"Big thanks to our families who were all there supporting us and to all the Midwives, Nurses and staff at Mt Auburn Hospital who understood the twin connection and made this all possible!!"
