Hillary Clinton says there is ‘no need’ for her to take a neurocognitive test

Hillary Clinton has laughed off the suggestion she should take a neurocognitive test, saying there is “no need” as she has already proved she is physically and mentally fit to be President.

The Democratic presidential candidate said she had released enough information to show she “met the standard” required to lead the United States – and criticised her opponent Donald Trump for not having done the same.

“I am very sorry I got pneumonia, I am very glad that antibiotics took care of it, and that’s behind us now,” Ms Clinton told ABC Action News at a rally in Orlando on Wednesday.

“I’ve met the standard that everybody running for president has met in terms of releasing information about my health. I have to say my opponent has not met that standard.”

Fears were raised over Ms Clinton’s health after she appeared to collapse at a 9/11 memorial service in New York and later confirmed she had pneumonia.

Responding to questions on whether, as a result of their age, she and Mr Trump were “at higher risk for dementia or even Alzheimer’s”, Ms Clinton said: “I am physically and mentally healthy and fit to be President of the United States.”

“The information is very clear and meets the standards that any other person running for president has ever had to meet, and I’m happy that we’ve met and even exceeded them in certain ways.”

Ms Clinton is 68 and her rival Mr Trump is 70, making them the oldest pair of US presidential candidates ever.

And if Mr Trump were to win the election in November, he would be the oldest president ever elected – breaking the record set by Ronald Reagan, who was 69 when he was inaugurated into the role.

Last week, both candidates released medical details after their health was put in the spotlight by Ms Clinton’s diagnosis – following months of Mr Trump raising questions over Ms Clinton’s “stamina”.

While Mr Trump released a one-page summary of a physical examination showing him to be in good health, Ms Clinton’s doctor Lisa Bardack said Ms Clinton was in “excellent mental condition” and “healthy and fit to serve” as US president, according to the BBC.

However, this has not stopped supporters of Mr Trump and conspiracy theorists from leaping on her latest comments. “The only way she’d pass is if the FBI administered it,” wrote Milton Wolf on Twitter.

And another Twitter user, Thomas Paul, wrote: "Hillary Clinton is paid by Big Pharma. Her brain is backfiring. She's heavily drugged with toxins."

At a gathering in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Ms Clinton said voters should be wary of being “fooled” by Mr Trump’s campaign.

“Having said all this, 'Why aren't I 50 points ahead?' you might ask?” she said via video link.

“Well, the choice for working families has never been clearer. I need your help to get Donald Trump's record out to everybody. Nobody should be fooled."
