The heartbreaking story has a good message behind it for kids struggling to fit in

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Peering out from a circular window on the second floor of an old abandoned home, Jinx can be seen in the opening scenes of the Google Doodle video sadly watching trick-or-treaters. The apparition turns around, finding an empty room filled with potential costumes — and a scary picture of snarling ghosts who are quickly covered up with a nice drawing of Jinx with some friends.
So, hoping to join the fun, Jinx tries on several of those costumes, hoping to find the perfect outfit to blend in with the friends outside. After several attempts to join the crew, Jinx eventually learns a valuable lesson.
No, the attempt at wearing a witches costume did not work — the hat and cape simply flew off when Jinx ran through a tree. No, the mummy wraps did not work — they snagged and tore to pieces. None of the other costumes, ultimately, did the trick either.
But Jinx’s night was not over. After donning a white sheet, Jinx heads on to meet the friends, giving it one last shot.
When Momo, a black cat who starred in last years’ doodle, loses its hat, Jinx finally steps out of the bushes to pick up the hat and hand it over. After doing so, though, Jinx’s white sheet is suddenly torn away by a gust of wind.
But, instead of being shunned by Momo and the gang, they end up embracing the lonely little ghost.
Google says that they originally considered making something of a love tale out of the trials of Jinx, but ultimately decided that such a story would be best left for Valentines day. So, instead, they landed on a much more suitable and relevant theme for Jinx: Just be yourself. You'll be accepted.
