More than 130,000 pounds of ground beef have been recalled in the United States due to possible E. coli contamination, with at least one person having died in connection to the apparent contamination.
The beef products were packaged and produced on June 21, and have an “EST. 86R” label inside of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection.
Seventeen people are said to have become sick from he contamination, in addition to the single death.
The recalled meat came from Cargill Meat Solutions, a business in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
The potentially contaminated meat came from the chuck portion of the carcass, and the product has reportedly been distributed nationwide.
Sick individuals first reported experiencing symptoms between July 5 and 25.
E coli symptoms generally begin between one and 10 days after an individual consumes contaminated food or beverages. But, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that most people become sick within three to four days of exposure.
