Four members of a Royal Navy hockey team have been charged by the Canadian authorities with sexual assault.
The men are accused of a “group sexual assault” of a young women at barracks at an air base at Shearwater near Halifax on Thursday. The hockey team was in Canada for a military tournament.
The men were named by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, part of the Canadian military police, as Craig Stoner, Darren Smalley, Joshua Finbow and Simon Radford.
Prosecutor Scott Morrison said the victim was 21 years old but could not provide any further details.
The British Royal Navy said that it takes allegations of this nature very seriously, but added that they are not able to comment further as legal proceedings are ongoing.
The sailors were being held at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Halifax and were due to return to court Monday.
