Family reveal skydiver's final video as they sue for 40m

A family has released a tragic video documenting an 18-year-old’s last moments before his death during a skydiving jump after a judge awarded a $40m ruling in the case.

The footage, which shows Tyler Turner in an exchange with a man behind a camera, was released by the family’s attorney following their win against the owner of the Lodi Parachute Center in California, CBS13 reported.

Turner died when his parachute did not open in a 2016 jump at the skydiving business. The teenager’s tandem instructor, who also died, was not properly certified, the outlet said.

In the video, Turner discusses the upcoming jump saying: “I am going to jump out of a plane” admitting it is a “little bit scary.”

“When I get up there it’s going to be like oh gosh, adrenaline is going to kick in and I’m just gonna let it happen,” he adds.

The clip includes a chilling exchange between Turner and the person off camera where he reassures himself that he will “make it.”

"That’s my Mom over there," Turner says. "Very loving Mom. Done a lot for me in my life  Hope she’ll help me with more in my life cause I want to make it! We’re gonna make it."

The owner of the parachute business, Bill Dause, declined a request for an interview when contacted by CBS13 on Wednesday.

In the aftermath of the tragedy in 2016, Mr Dause spoke about the incident, saying: "It’s an unfortunate situation, but if you see a car wreck they don’t close the freeway.”

“It’s something that unfortunately in this sport, in skiing, in scuba diving, there are fatalities,” he added.

Turner is not only person to have died at the Lodi Parachute Center, with there having been 20 deaths at the drop zone since the 1980s, the broadcaster said.

The judge ruled that Mr Dause can be held personally responsible for the payment in the suit, regardless of whose name the parachute business is held in.
