In a newly released video Mexican marines can be seen smashing through the steel-reinforced front door to Chapo's safehouse before conducting a search.
A hidden set of steps underneath the bath was discovered during the operation, revealed where Guzman's brazen escape was made.
His mistress, Lucero Guadalupe Sanchez Lopez, told a New York courtroom on Friday that Chapo was "naked" when he made his exit.
“He took off running,” she said. “He left us behind.”
The account of the mad dash and her tortured romance with Guzman while he was on the run came at a drug trafficking trial that has detailed El Chapo’s rise and fall as a near-mythical cartel boss.
Guzman’s lawyers say the allegations have been fabricated by cooperators seeking leniency in their own cases.
