From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

One week after Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, Joe Chandler still has no idea the billionaire will run his country.
"I'm still living in a bubble of blissful ignorance," he told Fox News.
The artist, who works from home, has avoided television, newspapers and social media since he went to bed on 8 November.
“I was invited to an election party to stay up into the night with everybody gnawing their nails, hanging on and I thought, oh there has to be a better way,” he said.
When he woke up, he said he felt so peaceful he decided to put off finding out who won the election until the afternoon.
“Having subtracted myself from this political fracas and all of the mayhem of the digital media, I kind of found the centre of the cyclone, it is very peaceful in my bubble of ignorance,” he added.
Now, his daughter sends him edited updates of the news so he can stay up to date.
When he does leave his house, Mr Chandler wears headphones and a sign reading: "I don't know who won, and don't want to.
"Please don't tell me!"
