Doctors in Chicago delivered the baby of a woman who was fatally shot while eight months pregnant.

A 35-year-old pregnant woman identified as Stacy Jones was found on the city’s south side with two gunshot wounds to her back, Fox 32 reported.

Police found Ms Jones lying on a porch, unresponsive just after midnight on Tuesday morning, the broadcaster said.

The woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died. However, Doctors at the University of Chicago Medical Center were able to deliver her baby.

The baby remains in critical condition and was transferred to another hospital.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the woman.

Police said they are searching for the shooter and that no-one has yet been taken into custody regarding the incident.
