Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders may have clashed over America’s involvement in the Middle East, gun control and her alleged support of Wall Street, but there was one moment of unity - and levity - during the debate.

Indeed, the biggest cheer during Tuesday Democratic debate probably came when Mr Sanders came to Ms Clinton’s defense over the issue of her controversial email practices as Secretary of State. Ms Clinton said while she thought it was a legitimate question, she believed the relentless pursuit of the topic was the result of Republican smear tactics.

Mr Sanders - who had earlier been criticised by Ms Clinton for being what she said was insufficiently strong on gun control - said he he agreed with her.

“The American people are sick and tired are hearing about your damn emails,” Mr Sanders exclaimed as the crowd in Las Vegas roared with applause.

A smiling Ms Clinton reached over to shake his hand and said: "Thank you, Bernie."
