Harvey Weinstein learns about air fryers in bizarre court video
Disgraced movie mogul discussed kitchen appliances ahead of extradition hearing concerning new sexual assault charges in California
Harvey Weinstein had a bizarre conversation about air fryers with his lawyer before a virtual extradition hearing on Monday.
Weinstein, who was convicted of sexual assault and third-degree rape in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison, could be heard discussing the kitchen appliance with his attorney Norman Effman.
“I bought an air fryer, and it’s a whole new world,” Mr Effman said.
A court clerk jumped into the conversation, adding: “I keep saying, should I get one, should I not get one, I probably should.”
Mr Effman continued: “Besides just making fries and chicken wings, you can do hamburgers. You can do anything in the damn thing. It’s great.”
Weinstein is facing new sexual assault charges in California.
His lawyer argued that he shouldn't be extradited to Los Angeles because of health issues, stating that he's had four teeth removed and is almost legally blind. Mr Effman said that Weinstein is also suffering from cardiac issues, back issues, and sleep apnea, Variety reported.
Before the hearing, Weinstein asked Mr Effman if his air fryer was similar to a George Forman grill.
“This is kind of like a convection oven,” Mr Effman answered.
Mentioning chicken wings, Mr Effman said “you can make them without a lot of oil, you just do a little brushing so you’re making healthy fried food".
Weinstein is being held at the maximum-security Wende Correctional Facility in Alden east of Buffalo in the western part of New York state.
