Suspected terrorist Frank James appeared in Brooklyn federal court for the first time on Thursday where a judge ordered him to be held behind bars until his trial and his lawyers requested he undergo a psychological exam.

Mr James, 62, is charged with terrorism on a mass transportation system over Tuesday’s Brooklyn subway attack where he allegedly shot 10 people before going on the run for 30 hours.

The suspect was finally arrested in Manhattan’s East Village on Wednesday afternoon when he called CrimeStoppers himself to tell police he was at a nearby McDonald’s.

Officers descended on the fast food joint to find him gone, before taking him into custody nearby along St. Mark’s Place and First Avenue.

Mr James is accused of injuring around 30 people in Tuesday morning’s rush hour attack in Sunset Park.

The gunman donned a gas mask on a packed N train travelling to Manhattan and opened a gas canister, before opening fire as the train travelled into 36 Street station.

His motive remains unclear but disturbing YouTube videos show Mr James ranting about Mayor Eric Adams, the subway system and NYC’s mental health system.

Marjorie Taylor Greene uses Brooklyn subway shooting to argue against gun control

Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed gun control for preventing Brooklyn subway victims from defending themselves against an active shooter.

The Republican congresswoman used the shooting to argue against gun laws after the attack left at least 29 people injured.

“With New York’s strict gun control laws, how many innocent people were carrying a gun when the bad guy with a gun broke the existing laws and started shooting people?” she said in a tweet.

“Bad guys don’t care about gun control and gun control only stops people from being able to protect themselves.”

NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said “we do have a person of interest in this investigation.

“We are truly fortunate this was not significantly worse than it is,” she said.

Person of interest named in shooting; 33 rounds fired

Police named Frank R James as a person of interest in the Brooklyn subway shooting, with addresses in Wisconsin and Philadelphia.

“The keys to that U-Hall van were found on the subway in our shooter’s possession.”

Police said 33 rounds were fired in the attack.

The person of interest in the Brooklyn shooting, Frank R James had addresses in Wisconsin and Philidelphia, where the U-Haul van connected to the attack was rented.

A key to the van was found among the shooter’s possessions, police said.

Police released more details on the victims, saying seven men and three women suffered gunshot wounds.

Another 13 passengers suffered injuries related to smoke inhalation, falling down, and panic attacks.

New York police say they have identified a person of interest in the Brooklyn subway shooting that saw 10 people suffer gunshot wounds and injured at least 18 others.

NYPD announced on Twitter that they were searching for a Frank R James in conenction with the attack, in which a masked gunman set off a smoke device before opening fire on a crowded Manhattan-bound N train as it waited to enter 36th St station on Tuesday morning.

“This is Frank James. He is a person of interest in the shooting that took place on the N train in Brooklyn Tuesday morning,” they stated in the tweet, which included two pictures of the suspect.

Videos emerge of person of interest

Frank R James, the 62-year-old wanted in connection with the Brooklyn subway shooting was identified by police after a rental van belonging to him was discovered at the scene on Tuesday.

While he remains on the run, investigators said they were examining social media videos in which he criticised the United States as and New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams.

“You got kids going in here now taking machine guns and mowing down innocent people,” Mr James reportedly says in one video about violent crime. “It’s not going to get better until we make it better”.

He also railed against Mr Adams’ policies to tackle homelessness and violent crime and remarked: “This nation was born in violence, it’s kept alive by violence or the threat thereof and it’s going to die a violent death. There’s nothing going to stop that”.

As The Associated Press reported, a video posted on 20 February shows Mr James saying he was a “victim” of the city’s mental health programs. Authorities stress that he may not be the gunman.
