From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The American actress is among multiple A-listers who will hand over their social media accounts to leading experts on coronavirus amid the pandemic as part of the #PassTheMic campaign.
Dr Fauci, who has advised the White House since the start of the US pandemic as an infectious diseases expert, will start the social media takeovers on Ms Robert’s Instagram on Thursday.
The three weeks long campaign will put both frontline workers and experts in front of millions, and provide global perspectives on how to beat the pandemic.
It comes as organisers ONE World, which is working to combat extreme poverty and preventable disease around the globe, calls on people to unite to combat Covid-19.
“The last person you need to hear from right now is me,” Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown said on Wednesday at the campaign’s announcement.
Other participants include Penelope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, James McEvoy and Hugh Jackman.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who caught and recovered from Covid-19, are also due to take part.
After Dr Fauci’s #PassTheMic event on Thursday, experts including David Anderson (Nurse, Director of Quality at Nightingale Hospital, Manchester), Aya Chebbi (Youth Envoy, African Union) and Jen Kates (Global Health & HIV Policy), will takeover other accounts.
ONE campaign president and CEO, Gayle Smith said: "Beating the virus means listening to the experts and following the science, data and facts to get ahead of it.”
"This impressive group of talent and experts from around the world will put a spotlight on the need for a global response to this pandemic,” added Mr Smith. "Because none of us are safe until all of us are safe."
