From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In the video, Cuomo can be seen ascending the stairs in his house from his basement and rounding a corner, speaking to the camera as he goes.
“Alright, here it is,” he said. “The official re-entry from the basement, cleared by the CDC.”
Mr Cuomo has been reporting from his basement since he was diagnosed, giving frequent updates on his condition and his battle with the virus to his colleague Sanjay Gupta.
During his time in quarantine, Mr Cuomo’s wife also tested positive for the virus, though the anchor said she has already been cleared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to leave quarantine.
Mr Cuomo said his wife was the “stronger part of the couple” as she was cleared of the virus in a “fraction of the time” that he was.
He said he was happy to have regained some semblance of normality.
“This is what I’ve been dreaming of literally for weeks. This is the dream, just to be back here, doing normal things,” he said.
Although Mr Cuomo’s video is meant to celebrate the end of his quarantine, he has been out of his basement at least once since his diagnosis.
Over the Easter weekend, Mr Cuomo had an altercation with a 65-year-old man — who he called a “loser fat biker” — that rebuked him for walking around outside with his family in the Hamptons.
A man named David spoke with The New York Post, claiming he was the man Mr Cuomo fought with over Easter.
“I said to him, ‘Your brother is the coronavirus czar, and you’re not even following his rules — unnecessary travel,’” David told the Post.
According to David, Mr Cuomo said “Who the hell are you? I can do what I want.”
Mr Cuomo is brothers with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The confrontation was enough for Mr Cuomo to go on a SiriusXM radio show and suggest he was tired of working as a news anchor because it prevented him from speaking his mind.
“That matters to me — me being able to tell you, ‘you shut your mouth or I will do you the way you guys get to do to each other’. I want that back. I want to be able to tell you to go to hell, to shut your mouth, I don’t wanna hear it,” he said.
