An 18-month-old boy died after his mum drove a car through a golf course and then crashed the vehicle into a pond, according to reports.

Brittanie Mae Miloshevsky, 28, was discovered by South Salt Lake police in Salt Lake City, Utah, late Sunday evening "passed out near a fence on the golf course."

"(She) was lying on the ground and appeared to be trying to sleep," according to a police affidavit obtained by Desert News.

Nearby was the woman's minivan, which was partially submerged in the pond.

Miloshevsky admitted to police she had been drinking before driving through the golf course.

"Officers checked the car and located a small child submerged in the vehicle. The child was submerged for a substantial period of time in cold water," according to the affidavit. "(Miloshevsky's) clothing is completely soaked with water and it appears she was in the vehicle at the time it went into the water."

Divers went into the pond multiple times to retrieve the child after the mom notified officers that he was still in the vehicle.

The child was pulled out of the water and transferred to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Miloshevsky was charged with child abuse homicide, DUI resulting in serious injury, child endangerment and criminal mischief.

Police were also investigating if the woman decided to take her vehicle for a joyride because she has no association with the golf course.
