Cameos 'Diamond' Joe Biden is the latest to post a selfie
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Diamond Joe Biden, Scranton's finest, strikes again. While our politicians struggle awkwardly with pop culture (think David Cameron hanging with One Direction or Gordon Brown "enjoying" the Arctic Monkeys), the US Vice-President shows us how it's done.
Not content with a brief cameo in hot US sitcom Parks and Recreation, Biden also recently had a tête-à-tête with his fictional counterpart.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the powerless presidential No 2 in Armando Iannucci's HBO satire Veep, offered details of the meeting last week during an appearance on Conan O'Brien's chat show.
Dreyfus excitedly revealed a photo taken of the pair while riding in Biden's motorcade. But this was no official portrait, instead Biden engineered that most modern of pictures, "the selfie".
Once again, Biden shows how to be down with the spirit of the times and to pull off the common touch.
