From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A bride-to-be and her fiance's best man are missing after a boat crash on New York's Hudson River.

Lindsay Stewart, 30, of Piermont, is due to marry in two weeks. Her fiance, Brian Bond, 35, was knocked unconscious, and his best man Mark Lennon is also missing. Four others were also injured.

After a three-hour search last night, the two were still missing.

ABC reported that the group was cruising the Hudson on a 21-foot Stingray boat.

Around 10.30 last night, the powerboat struck a barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge, around 25 miles north of New York City.

Stewart's mother told ABC: "She's supposed to be married two weeks from today. It just can't end like this."

Searches for the two missing people resumed once the tide allowed at 9am today.
