From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

In her first interview since the ordeal, she told Good Morning America: “I was devastated, of course.
“I’m like, how could somebody, like, post these pictures of me? And I’m like ‘Wow, okay.’
“This is a person that I trusted. I confided. I felt comfortable, you know, with even sending these pictures and even talking to him about certain things, you know. I just felt betrayed," she said, as reported by Page Six.
Kardashian, son of the late Robert Kardashian, posted nude pictures and graphic text messages of his former fiancé last week and re-shared them several times after Instagram took them down. The pictures have since been deleted.
Revenge porn has been illegal in California since 2013 and Kardashian could face criminal charges, according to legal experts.
The former couple became engaged in April last year and have a seven month old daughter, Dream.
Chyna added that Kardashian at first was “very sweet” and “very caring”.
“I felt as though he just really needed, you know, help without somebody pointing their finger. ‘Cause I know how that could be,” she said.
“And I felt like I was that friend that never, like, asked questions or judged him. And I was just always there for him. And that’s what kinda, like, attracted me. We just had good times together. And what was the breaking point was when I actually let my guard down.”
Chyna’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom, said in a statement that she was putting Kardashian “on notice”.
Ms Bloom represented Mischa Barton in her recent successful civil suit against an ex to prevent revenge-porn images of her from being released.
“Cyberbullying your ex is harassment. Chyna ended your relationship months ago and she has the right to live as she chooses, work as she chooses, dress as she chooses, and be intimate with who she chooses,” she wrote.
“Chyna and I both believe that this is an important women’s rights issue, as too many women and girls have been slut-shamed by exes. It stops now. Your attempts to shame and control her are hereby rejected. Her body, her choice. Her life, her choice. Back off.”
Ms Bloom is appearing in court in California to obtain a temporary restraining order against him.
Kardashian, who is known for designing socks and appearing alongside his family in reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, had accused Chyna of having an affair. He claimed she sent him a video of “another man in [their] bed” after he bought her jewellery worth $250,000.
Chyna responded to the allegations with a Snapchat post, which has since been deleted. It said: “Rob you did all this but you beat me up and try act it never happen !!!!! You put hand on me I swear on god !!!!! On my kids but I'm supposed to be quiet because you're a Kardashian.”
Representatives for Chyna and Kardashian did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
