From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, whose transphobic rants have seen his broadcasts removed from YouTube, unwittingly revealed transgender pornography on his phone, video appears to show.
The radio show host behind the controversial InfoWars brand was filming a segment promoting “personal wellness” products on an affiliate site when he clicked away from the page on his mobile phone.
For a split second the camera, still trained on his screen, revealed an array of open tabs including a page titled: “Naughty tbabe Marissa Mi…”
“Tbabe” is a term used to refer to transgender pornography stars and the clip is believed to show Marissa Minx, described as “Australia’s #1 Trans Companion/XXXAdult Model”.
The actor later tweeted her support, writing that it was “fantastic he is watching scenes”.
But she also retweeted several posts criticising Mr Jones for his “hypocritical” and “blatantly anti-trans views”.
It is not clear if the phone belongs to Mr Jones, who made no comment about the page at the time of the video and has yet to respond publicly.
He has a long history of using his broadcasts to attack the LGBT+ community, suggesting on one occasion that homosexuality was not “normal biological behaviour” and on another making fun of progressive attitudes by suggesting people were being encouraged to have sex with cars.
“This is the breakdown with society, and if you don’t let somebody have sex with your car, you’re a homophobe, you’re a bigot, you’re a horrible person,” he said.
Addressing drag performers in July, Mr Jones told them: “We’re going to destroy you. You will ascend to Hell in the reverse order.
“You need to fear god. Your god has stolen your soul.”
He has also used broadcasts on his channel to suggest Michelle Obama was a man and that the Pentagon has a “gay bomb” with chemicals leaking into the water supply turning “the friggin’ frogs gay!”
Earlier in August, Facebook removed his InfoWars page for "using hate speech".
YouTube has also “terminated” his broadcasts on their site and Apple has taken down hundreds of podcasts.
The Independent approached Mr Jones for comment but he was yet to provide one at the time of publication.
