Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A 1600-pound butt is touring Las Vegas, Denver, Kansas City, Louisville and more this summer, "for no other reason than it's dumb".

Spotted in Virginia today, the 14-foot tall sculpture was made by comedian Kurt Braunholer, who is driving it around on the back of a truck for a solid week.

"The world is a pretty tough place to live in," Braunohular told WCAV-TV, "so we thought we could brighten peoples days with a bit of randomness, and that is why I am driving around a giant butt."

"So here’s our proposed route - who knows if we’ll be able to stick to this schedule. We’re gonna try. We’re dropping the butt off in my mom’s driveway in New Jersey. She is not aware of this yet."

The journey is part of a pilot Braunohler is making for Comedy Central called Better. Dumber. Faster, which will be "all about inserting absurdity into stranger’s lives to make this bleak world a little bit brighter."

The Love Butt tour started in Las Vegas on 30 June and wraps up in Washington DC this week.
