Zimbabwean state radio says the police has banned all political rallies in the wake of the nation's post-election crisis.

Anger has grown in Zimbabwe over the past two weeks over the delay in releasing election results that reportedly show President Robert Mugabe did not receive the most votes. The opposition says it won outright and would refuse to take part in a runoff.

The radio quoted police as saying today that they had ordered all rallies to be cancelled with "immediate effect."
