Previously unseen footage of Oscar Pistorius apparently re-enacting the events leading up to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his Pretoria home last year has emerged.

A preview of the leaked video, to be broadcast on the Sunday Night documentary slot of Australia’s Channel Seven, shows the Paralympic athlete running awkwardly but unaided without his prosthesis through a living room while clenching his fist, as if pretending to hold a gun.

The clip shows the 27-year-old, dressed in a Nike T-shirt and black shorts, looking emotionless while being watched by several men in shirts and ties.

More footage shows Pistorius crawling on all fours, struggling to carry a motionless brunette out of a bathroom.

It is unclear why the re-enactment was prepared and why it has not yet been shown in the trial. It was previously reported that an American firm called The Evidence Room was preparing an animated re-enactment of events, but this was not mentioned in court.

Pistorius’ spokeswoman Anneliese Burgress has said the athlete’s legal advisors are seeking “urgent clarification” from the broadcaster in relation to the footage.

Pistorius shot Ms Steenkamp, a model and law graduate, through a locked bathroom door on Valentine’s Day last year.

He denies murder, saying he shot at the door thinking Ms Steenkamp was an intruder, while the state says he killed her deliberately after an argument.

The athlete’s trial in Pretoria has resumed after being put on hold for a month while he underwent a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.

The team of three psychiatrists and one psychologist who assessed Pistorius said that he had no significant mental health issues prior to the shooting, but that he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after the shooting and is at risk of committing suicide.
