KUWAIT - An Iraqi linked by Kuwait to Iraqi intelligence yesterday denied involvement in an alleged plot to assassinate the former US president George Bush.

'I am only a smuggler,' Salem Nasser al-Shammari told Kuwait's security court.

When one of the presiding judges said Mr Shammari looked familiar, the defendant said he had been jailed 15 times in Kuwait for smuggling and had previously appeared before him.
