NAIROBI (Reuter) - Ninety-six people were killed, 12 of them children, in Kenya's worst bus crash, when an overcrowded bus skidded out of control and plunged into a river north of Nairobi. Police said 16 survivors were taken to hospital at Machakos, near the crash site. Some of the injured were in critical condition.
The 50-seater coach was carrying 112 people when it ran out of control, rammed into a bridge and then plunged into the river. With the bus doors secured, there was little chance of escape.
