Woman takes over as police chief
Elizabeth Neville, 44, was celebrating yesterday after starting work as only the second woman to be appointed a chief constable.
Ms Neville beat four men to the pounds 73,920-a-year job with Wiltshire Police. Formerly Northamptonshire's deputy chief, she follows in the steps of her friend Pauline Clare, who was appointed chief of the Lancashire force in July 1995, at the age of 47.
