A ‘joyriding’ chihuahua was at the centre of a minor crash this month when a woman who stopped at a red light was hit by another car in Spokane, Washington.

Tabitha Ormaechea told Krem2News she had stopped at a traffic light when a car appeared to come out of nowhere and bump into her vehicle.

Ms Ormaechea said initially she could not see anyone in the car, until the dog appeared from behind the steering wheel.

“When I looked up, there was no one in the car, just a little dog up on the steering wheel peeking over looking at me,” she explained.

“I was shocked, I didn't know if I was crazy, or if this little dog had taken a joy ride.”

Jason Martinez, the dog’s owner, told the news broadcaster he had parked his car and headed into a store when someone came in and asked if anyone owned a brown car.

Mr Martinez said the animal must have knocked the car out of gear, causing it to roll out and bump into Ms Ormaechea’s vehicle.

No-one was injured in the incident and the damage to the car was minimal, according to the TV station.
