The message left in a London chip shop window

For most high street businesses which have to close for a few days, a brief note in the window saying when they are to reopen usual suffices.

But that wasn’t enough for the grumpy old man behind this message left at a London chip shop, which has deservedly gone viral after images were posted on Twitter.

In it, the sadly unidentified shop owner starts conventionally enough by stating that: “This shop will be closed for one week… Re-open[ing] on Monday 16 March.”

But he then goes on to explain: “This year my wife has decided to take us all youth hosteling. I told her at her age she would be better off with SAGA.”

Clearly not satisfied with just one joke at his wife’s expense, he cracked out a second page of A4 and went on: “We are taking two of our children, one daughter in law plus one grandson.

“No internet, mobile phones, playstations etc. Personally I think we will all be bored to tears.

“She who must be obeyed says we will have a great time telling tales round the campfire etc.

“I would rather be here with beer + TV can’t wait to be home see you soon. Sorry for any inconvenience.”
