Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

SEAN WOODS, who has yet to saddle a winner at Dunstall Park, can put matters right with VICTORIA VENTURE in the Beech Selling Stakes over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton on Friday evening.

A drop in class and a step up in distance look ideal for this juvenile, who has not been disgraced in some useful maidens on each of her three outings.

Most recently she finished fourth to Ernie Weymes' Top Cat, who went on to win the Hilary Needler at Beverley and performed with credit at Royal Ascot, and she is napped to win this poor contest.

Equally moderate in terms of quality is the Silver Birch Maiden Handicap over the minimum distance. This can be taken by HO MEI SURPRISE.

Brian Preece's three-year-old has been running well in better all-weather races and a reproduction of his latest two runs behind Efficacy should be good enough.

EFFICACY is seeking a hat-trick and is the selection in the Oak Handicap.

Alan Jarvis' charge, a winner three times over course and distance this year, has been improving steadily and is only 5lb higher than on his latest defeat of Ring The Chief at the track in mid-June.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE has been running consistently well recently and is a tentative choice in the BSD Colour Coated Steel Oldbury Handicap.

SELECTIONS

2.20 Ho Mei Surprise, 2.50 Fen Terrier, 3.20 What A Nightmare, 3.50 Efficacy, 4.20 Victoria Venture (nap), 4.50 Captain Marmalade.
