Veteran broadcaster hospitalised

THE LONGEST running radio programme in the world, Alistair Cooke's Letter From America, was not broadcast for the first time in more than 50 years last night because the 91-year-old journalist was in hospital. The BBC substituted a 1967 Christmas Eve broadcast into the slot.
