Joy Gardner, 40, had been on a life support machine and had not regained consciousness since the incident happened on Wednesday at her home in Hornsey. It is now being investigated by the Police Complaints Authority.
Bernie Grant, Labour MP for Tottenham, said last night: 'I have spoken to the family and they are absolutely devastated by what has happened.' He reiterated his call for a public inquiry into the incident.
Scotland Yard last night issued a statement of regret over Mrs Gardner's death.
