Water company heads' compensation

John Bellak, chairman and chief executive of Severn Trent, whose contract was terminated this year, received pounds 512,000 in compensation and pension contributions, according to the company's latest annual report. He also received pounds 226,000 in share options and pounds 230,000 as company chairman.

Bob Thian, chief executive of North West Water - where some employees are facing pay cuts of up to pounds 6,000 a year because of job restructuring - received pounds 674,000 when he left the company recently.
