Jack Sofiri, a candlemaker, dipping church candles for Christmas at Price's Patent Candle factory in Battersea, south London. The family-controlled business was established in 1830 and its products were used by Captain Scott in the Antarctic and by Florence Nightingale during her work in the Crimean War.
